Jane Urquhart, Principal of The London Academy (previously Greycoat Academy) started her professional career as a teacher of sixth formers and became Deputy Head of Tring School before working for the Department of Education recruiting teachers.

Subsequently she started Greycoat Placements Limited (part of the Empresaria Group) which grew in reputation and size placing top domestic staff in the UK and internationally.

In 1992 she started the Greycoat Academy, training domestic staff on courses and in people's private residences and yachts. In July 2010 she left Greycoat Placements taking with her the school, now renamed The London Academy. The school trains domestic staff including chefs, housekeepers, couples, butlers, gardeners and Personal Assistants and estate managers. The training has been expanded not only in households but also in chalets, on private yachts, in top end retail stores and in hotels and palaces all over the world.

More recently "The International Training Association" has been formed to embrace and support a network of top quality domestic training establishments in countries around the world. This Association is formed of members (one per country) who provide training for domestic staff and use THE LONDON ACADEMY as a brand label.
